Meerut witnessed a spectacular aviation display on Saturday as the Indian Air Force’s Suryakiran Aerobatic Team performed its first-ever air show in the city. Nine Hawk Mk-132 aircraft took to the skies over the New Integrated Township in Mohiuddinpur, leaving thousands of spectators captivated by their precision and daring formations.
The air show was organised under the Seva Sankalp Abhiyan and brought together students, NCC cadets, families and aviation enthusiasts. The aircraft took off from Hindon Air Base and reached Meerut at around 10:25 am, beginning a performance that quickly drew applause from the crowd.
Nine Hawk Jets Create a Spectacular Show
The Suryakiran team showcased a series of high-precision aerial manoeuvres, with the nine aircraft changing formations within seconds. The jets performed loops, barrel rolls, inverted flying and the challenging DNA manoeuvre, demonstrating the pilots’ coordination and flying skills.
One of the most exciting moments came when two aircraft approached each other and crossed paths at high speed with carefully timed precision. The performance kept spectators watching the sky throughout the show, with many recording the memorable moments on their mobile phones.
Tricolour Trails Light Up the Meerut Sky
Adding to the spectacle were saffron, white and green smoke trails released behind the aircraft. As the jets moved across the sky, the trails created a striking display of the colours of the Indian national flag.
The sight brought a strong patriotic atmosphere to the venue, with spectators applauding and raising slogans such as “Vande Mataram” and “Jai Hind.”
Meerut Officers Add a Special Connection
The air show also had a special connection with the city, with three Squadron Leaders from Meerut associated with the Suryakiran team. Squadron Leaders Aman Goyal and Rahul Singh participated in the aerial display, while Squadron Leader Sharad Goyal handled ground coordination for the show.
For many young spectators, the event offered more than an exciting display. It provided a close look at the discipline, training and technical skills involved in military aviation and also encouraged interest in careers in the armed forces.
A Memorable Day for Meerut
The Suryakiran Aerobatic Team, part of the Indian Air Force’s 52 Squadron, was established in 1996. The team is known for its precision formations and aerobatic displays across India.
For Meerut, however, Saturday’s performance was a first. The roar of nine Hawk jets, perfectly timed formations and colourful trails across the sky turned the air show into a memorable spectacle for residents and visitors.
The event added a new chapter to Meerut’s aviation experiences, giving thousands of people an opportunity to witness the skill and coordination of the Indian Air Force’s Suryakiran team up close.
