How a ₹2 Crore Film Beat Yash’s Big-Budget Movie at the Box Office

In a year filled with big stars and massive movie budgets, Hanuman Ansh has managed to pull off something very few expected. Made on a reported budget of just around ₹2 crore, the film has turned into a remarkable box-office success and has even outperformed Yash’s Toxic on several comparable days.

The contrast is hard to ignore. On one side was Toxic, a much bigger release backed by a major star and a reported budget running into hundreds of crores. On the other was Hanuman Ansh, a spiritual film that began its theatrical run with limited screens and little of the traditional Bollywood-style promotion.

Yet, the low-budget film kept growing.

Hanuman Ansh’s Unlikely Box Office Journey

Hanuman Ansh, based on the life and teachings of spiritual leader Neem Karoli Baba, opened in theatres on August 7, 2026. Its beginning was far from spectacular, with the film earning only around ₹10 lakh on its opening day.

For a film with such a small budget, that could easily have been the end of the story.

The film started finding more viewers after its first couple of weeks, and collections began climbing rather than falling. By its fourth week, Hanuman Ansh had become a genuine sleeper hit, showing that audience interest can sometimes build much later than expected.

Hanuman Ansh vs Toxic: The Box Office Surprise

The comparison with Toxic makes the story even more interesting.

Yash’s Toxic arrived as a much bigger commercial release, with a huge production scale and significantly higher expectations. Hanuman Ansh, meanwhile, was never expected to compete with a film of that size.

But when daily box-office numbers are compared at similar stages of their theatrical runs, Hanuman Ansh has delivered some surprising results.

On Day 26, for example, Hanuman Ansh reportedly collected around ₹8.50 crore net in India, higher than Toxic’s reported ₹7.85 crore on its seventh day.

From ₹2 Crore Budget to ₹150 Crore Plus

The biggest talking point is the return on investment.

According to the latest trade reports, Hanuman Ansh has crossed the ₹150 crore India net mark, with the film still showing strong theatrical performance more than a month after release. Times of India reported an India net collection of approximately ₹153.13 crore by Day 34, while other reports have put the figure even higher depending on the latest update.

For a film made for around ₹2 crore, those numbers are extraordinary.

This is also why the film is being discussed as one of the biggest low-budget success stories of 2026. Its success is not simply about the final collection; it is about how far the film travelled from its modest opening.

Why Did Hanuman Ansh Work?

There was no massive star campaign behind Hanuman Ansh. Instead, the film appears to have benefited from word of mouth and a growing interest among audiences looking for a spiritual and devotional story.

The makers also took a different promotional route, including community events and bhandaras rather than relying entirely on conventional movie marketing. That helped the film build a connection with its target audience.

A Lesson for Bollywood

The success of Hanuman Ansh is a reminder that box-office success does not always follow the size of a movie’s budget.

That makes the film’s journey particularly interesting. It started as a release that many people could easily overlook and ended up becoming one of the most talked-about sleeper hits of the year.

For now, Hanuman Ansh vs Toxic is less about declaring one film an overall winner and more about highlighting one of the most unexpected box-office stories of 2026: a ₹2-crore film that refused to disappear and kept growing week after week.
